Did you ever notice the ebb and flow of the crowd. We shift naturally from back to front to side to front to back to side. Does it really matter?
I can have #70 be in the same spot all 4 days if I try hard enough but you know whats weird, it really does not matter. After time you have friends in every other row :lol :medal
What do you think would happen if there were no numbers? Hua, do you think we would all jockey for the very same position. I say let the people speak, no numbers. Let us all move about freely and talk amongst ourselves like good men and women.
:medal I would gladly pay extra for front and center but I do think the music sounds fuller behind the sound booth. So close, its good but back is amazing. Robert Plant from behind the sound stage was off the charts. Yep no bad seat. :medal
Yep when you get to be my age you have more money then time on the planet. One vacation a year, do I want to be up at the frack of dawn to stand in a line. your kidding right. I am saving my money now for that good tarp position. Sounds good to this ol gal. LOVE YOU!!!
:wave Not at all. Why should I apologize for trying to optimize while some need to economize(RAP THIS!).
Im not getting any younger and seems to me the deck is already stacked. I can see how some who know this game well would be welllll lets just say a tad agitated at my point of view however contrary to popular beliefs life is not one long party or vacation from fest to fest. Some of us have limited number of days to devote to fun and if we need to secure a ticket we do, no matter what to manage the level of fun desired. This is forum correct? I say this train is long on seniority and bout half shot short on the fact most of us so called vets are around retirement. My mind says YESSSSS but my body says NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :lol
Well, I’m not young but still a ways from retirement but I would totally HATE to see a tiered seating system… That would change the entire “vibe” of the TBF.
This is just my point of view and not sure exactly to what extent it carries. Just my view. We are all important and Bev the weather is good up here . :flower
Interesting the attention and emotions generated by the tarp line/run structure. Last year was only our second gathering, but I am always mining for data in my surroundings as a food establishment owner and social scientist. It seems like the tarp run has a heavy ceremonial aspect to it. Where the overall framework may lack a type structure that some people believe would help with its efficiency, it truly offsets any shortcomings by delivering a wealth of interesting behaviors created by the daily event. Where else can you see this many adults gather to strategize, plan, organize, create budgets for potential temporary employees, endure cold weather in folding chairs with towels wrapped around their heads and countless more interesting and bizarre behaviors for the sake of being one of the first to pull a hamstring while trying to regain their speed of youth !!! I find it totally entertaining the commitment pledged to this act! Yes I agree that it may slightly detract from the music, but it is an odd product of the desire to be the closest to the music! In an odd and strange way the tarp line culture can actually creates benefits for local businesses through the sell of supplies and more to the people participating in the event within an event! As far as handing out line markers to people the day before I believe there are a considerable amount of problems that could be created by that approach. The first is the potential for the scalping of said vouchers. It is heavily frowned upon and potential for exile if the goal of selling tickets/vouchers for profit is the motivation for getting tickets. There would also be a new culture created by the process, which would undoubtedly have many less than savory qualities to it.
Sometimes it is best to let tradition take place and enjoy the byproducts of it while taking all of it in stride. I laugh when I walk by the line the day or night before and then laugh again when the next day when I am a few rows behind those same people relaxing with my family. Please consider the same approach and it may change the scope of the oddness that is known as the “Tarp Run”!!! :cheers
Well said! I look at it as a true event, just one of the many traditional things we do. It’s also like tailgating before a big game or a Jimmy buffett concert. Necessary, no, but a community effort that provides something a little extra to the fun of the weekend.
As for pulling hammy, we make sure to have our younger tarpmates run. If I had to run, I’d probably spill my bloody mary!
