I agree, I’m not a David Byrne fan myself but I’m sure others are so maybe that’s time to have a pick or a leg stretch. Wouldn’t mind seeing Taylor Swift though, she has a great banjo player (Banjo Ben Clarke) who is also an exceptional flatpicker.
There are quite a few acts on the lineup that would have the bluegrass purists pulling their hair out but if it hadn’t been for the 30th Anniversary DVD, I’d never have discovered the Waifs … so thanks TBF for your music policy.
I love the way PBG mixes it up… I can remember the first fest I attended it was 1986 The entire crowd did a huge hush and replied, hey that’s not Bluegrass, everyone paid attention and so many of those bands that were not bluegrass were so so fun and good… yep never would have found the Waifs, Ryan Schoop and the Rubberbands etc…,
Honestly, a few days of absence from the forum and the brits get out of hand! tsk tsk tsk…
Yes Mark, I’m talking to you, what were you thinking?!? Denigrating Alison Krauss on a bluegrass forum, where’s the sense in you?!? :eek
I absolutely adore Alison Krauss, but I can understand she’s not everyone’s cup of tea…
But really, a Bluegrass novice depreciating one of Bluegrass finest voices, that just won’t do!
Now go home and do a bit of homework: if you want to learn about bluegrass, start listening to it! Alison Krauss’s album with Robert Plant is like a tiny island in the ocean of bluegrass music she’s produced over the years, so before you express such contrary opinions, please get your knowledge up to scratch…To all bluegrass & AK lovers like myself, the reason we’d love to see her at Telluride is on the strength of her life long bluegrass career, not because of her latest release…
But mainly I’d like you to stop emitting negative waves in her name in case you ruin my good karma and stop her from coming to Telluride if she at all intends to…
Possibly another year with “Del and the Boys”, or maybe a great up-and-coming band out of Ft. Collins, “Head For The Hills”. Oh yeah, I wanna hear the “House Band” do an entire set of John Hartford tunes. Now wouldn’t that be the best dang thing in the whole wide world!!!
Seems a bit odd that people are expressing their distaste for our British brethren for expressing his distaste for an artist, no?
and since we’re talking about it… has AK really made a bluegrass album in YEARS? The most accurate description i’ve heard of her music lately is “Mid-America Adult Contemporary”. Sound pretty accurate to my ears anyway. Notice that i didn’t say it was good or bad. Just is what it is… like most music.
I’ve seen a couple of the bands/artists that i would be excited about jabbed at a bit. Doesn’t bother me at all… probably shouldn’t bother anyone else either. Maybe there is a general ‘lightening up’ needed?
In conclusion, I can’t be alone in thinking that there should be some sort of public safety protocol in place to alert all festigoers that Taylor Swift as been mention twice in this thread. Maybe a color coded hierarchy of danger levels like our national threat awareness system? If we don’t address this now then we’re just asking to be exposed to the Jonas Brothers or Hannah Montana.
Everybody smile
I for one will raise an Imperial Pint in hopes that everybody gets at least a few artists on the schedule that they’re really excited about. Sure, there are some that i’m still hoping for but i’ve already gotten enough of my hopes met.
Spewlanders…I am not worthy! your wisdom is great. It seems to us (Jo and I ) that if it were not for a couple of breaks in the music we arent crazy about. we may never have the chance to explore Telluride and its surrounding area. If we have these breaks we can meet others and perhaps sneak a couple of Rons homebrews! :cheers Everyone needs to lighten up on the deal. Go see who you want to, go do other things when there is someone playing your not crazy about. However, keep your mind and spirit open to giving all music a chance. What are you, a republican? :headphones
I guess my point didn’t come across as I would have liked it to…
I am also british and was just generally irritated at Mark for shooting down other people’s wishes to see Alison Krauss at Telluride, again! he did it to me the last time I expressed the wish and I don’t like that much negative atmosphere surrounding her name!
Once again, and I think someone else said this before me on this thread, surely it’s about people expressing what they would like to see, not denigrating the votes of other people?!?
Growing up as a Bluegrass fan in Europe certainly meant that I never had much support in my musical tastes, so I don’t expect to get that kind of attitude on a bluegrass forum!
So I just wanted to call for a minimum of respect for bluegrass in general and other people’s tastes in particular: I’m certainly not going to shout about who I wish wouldn’t come to TBF…
As you say, I’ll just go and enjoy the countryside if the music doesn’t appeal to my ears…
I’m looking forward to Telluride immensely, and I hope everyone gets a bit of what they’d like to see, I hope I’ll see old favorites and discover new treats…
So yes, lets lighten up, I am already as light as a feather, it’s my deadpan british sense of humor that doesn’t necessarily translate in writing :thumbsup
I hope the Infamous Stringdusters are announced
And I really hope Del is announced!
And i kinda hope Drew Emmit band is announced, i prefer them to Emmit Nershi a little
Ringo Starr would make things interesting, no?
I would like to see Steve as well. He opend for Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1976 White suit, arrow through head and all! It just so happened to be the first date for my wife and i when we were in high school. Now we come to Telluride for the first time to celebraate our 25th wedding anniversary. Whats old is new again! :thumbsup
