I def congrats to anyone that got tickets to the smaller venues. I wouldn’t have been surprised to not get those. Its the large venues that have never been lottery that I don’t understand.
At least do some lottery/presale and then save the rest for the people who want to get on and try their luck. Just very disappointed.
I am sure I will be able to get tickets to the shows I want to go- just thought with all the tickets I went for I should at least end up with 1 ticket to something.
I think the lottery does encourage people to over-enter. I’m feeling a bit sheepish, as I’m one of those people, but I would, literally, have been happy with whatever they gave me. (Darn you, Planet, for putting on so many great shows this year!) Last year, I only entered for one lonely ticket to the Punch Bros show and got denied. However, I did find an amazing festivarian who sold me his two extras so my friend Trevor could come along and see them for the first time. The ticket situation will shake itself out, and in just a couple of months, I bet most of you will be having your faces melted by the Nightgrass show of your choice. But yeah - the big lottery seems to create some chaos.
My brother and I put in for shows everynight (in some cases multiple shows). He was completely shut out. I got tickets for YMSB at the CC, but nothing else. Based on some other posts, I guess I was lucky…
Perhaps they need to change the lottery next year so people without a ticket are getting a chance before others get a second or third set of tickets.
Yeah I like the lotto better than the countdown/internet experience. That said, it might be because i got some tickets. Unfortunately, nobody in our group got Wednesday nite YonderCC for the first time since 2008. That won’t stop me from festivating the day away and riding the gondola up there at dusk… Ya never know. In the meantime, it looks like there are lots of swaps happening on the Nightgrass ticket board already. Keep the faith folks!
(Shoot, ol Sugar NEVER wins the lotto and, just a couple hours into the search, he has already landed two tickets to Tim &Darrell so he’ll be at one of the weekend’s sneaky-best offerings with camp mates. Festival has a way of working out if you just keep thinking smiley thoughts of the box canyon with 10000 friends!) :cheers
Yeah. I didn’t hit anything but I’ve already been in talks to get tickets for Tim and Darrell, which is a show I did not want to miss. I think the lottery definitely encouraged some people to enter for the CC and Palm shows in hopes of trading those tickets, even though I don’t think they’ll be hard to come across closer to the event. If there is a show you really want to see, head to the venue before it starts and I imagine someone will have an extra ticket or two. And even if you don’t get to nightgrass, you’ll still be at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. There are worse places to be.
I’d like to try to get tix beforehand so I’m not worried about it or side tracked all day, then leave the headliner early only to be disappointed. If all else fails we are at Telluride Bluegrass Festival! I will get tickets…
Keep the faith SarryGarcia—you’ll find some tix.
You mentioned earlier that you got shut out of the lotto last year… and ended up at the Palm every night!
These things have a way of working out… :flower
At the very least, it looks like you can go in this morning and buy tix to Jason Isbell for thursday night at the Palm (it ain’t sold out).
I will be at that show and highly recommend Isbell. He is a terrific musician and a wonderful storyteller. He brings the characters in his songs to life and i bet you will find yourself not only empathetic with their plights & emotions, but thinking ‘he wrote that part from my diary’! I think a lot of festivarians are unfamiliar with him [or just know him as the guitarist from DBT] but he will give a powerful late night show. :medal
there’s no easy perfect way to get NightGrass tickets to Festivarians … can’t think of an easy way to prevent scalpers from getting their greedy hands on tickets (ie: Mumford lottery type system last year would prevent scalping, but it’d be more w*rk for Planet Bluegrass if they did that for every show)
maybe next year anyone entering the lottery could enter first choice through up-to-eleventh choice (if they enter for all shows), instead of 1st-2nd-3rd choice each day, to make it more likely that more Festivarians entering could get at least one NightGrass show ? once you win once, your lottery entry goes in the “won’t win more tickets until there are no non-winning lottery entries remaining” waiting room ?
happy we got a pair of Moon Saloon tickets
got a feeling Festivarians who ended up getting multiple shows per night will post offers on the trade board, so don’t jump off a cliff if you got shut out so far …
if you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way to make it happen !
Thanks! to Planet Bluegrass for trying to make it fair ! whether Festivarians see the new lotto as better or worse, we’re lucky to have a chance to catch late night fun … hope everyone gets some
:thumbsup
this is the main ticket i wanted and how fortunate i am that it’s the only one not sold out. i would also recommend that you guys check out the lone bellow tiny desk performance.
i do still want YMSB and Del though. musically speaking though, isbell/lone bellow is the show i’m most excited about.
Check your junk/spam folder, especially if you have a yahoo, aol, or hotmail email…they tend to dislike us for some reason. :rolleyes
…or give us a call and we’ll look you up. :flower
I/we appreciate all the comments in here, guys. I think you all know we really are trying to make this as fair as possible. We put a lot of debate into this new all encompassing lottery idea…we even brought it to the forum for some feedback.
Being said and done, I feel very fortunate to have gotten 3 shows. Since there are 4 of us, we probably will not have any extras. I know that PB tried to be as fair as possible with these, so that’s not an issue. But I’ll tell you what, I would have rather hit the TP lottery than the NightGrass one any day.
I dont understand how I put in for Jason Isbell tickets (twice with two different credit cards) in the lottery, got a rejection letter, but then Jason Isbell tickets are onsale today because it didnt sell out in the lottery??
