KILLER FLANK STEAKS!!!

That is all.

Philip

you forgot…AND CORN!!!

So the thing that’s most challenging about camping food for me is that whatever it is you are looking for is always at the very bottom of the damn cooler. Then, stuff gets mushy and squished and waterlogged and everything starts smelling like onions. I’m considering getting one of those food vac thingies, but I’m not domesticated enough to be able to discern the difference between the 800 different models there are. Does anyone have one of these handy little air-sucker-outers and if so, could you shed some light one which one to get? I camp (car and backpack) year round, if that helps. I appreciate it! :flower

[We start out with the oyster barbecue on tuesday night, that is my big event for the greater crowd. The Arizona Bowl Potluck usually covers my Wed needs just fine. Once the festival starts I reserve some time each afternoon for hanging in camp next to the Bbq, it usually timed to coincide with a band that I can be comfortable listening to from there. Menus center around some kind of meat on the grill and a great communaly assembled salad. Past main courses have included: Wild caught pacific salmon, brined free range turkey ( never again, the clean up was a bitch), grass fed top sirloin roast, beer can young hens, Karl’s killer chicken wings, veggie kabobs - - - etc.

Breakfast is usually some form of breakfast burrito or sourdough waffles with maple Al’s syrup and fresh fruit. I can’t do without my morning cafe au lait with fresh ground coffee from the Unseen bean. :thumbsup

Lunch is skipped or consumed inside the festival.

I emphasize community involvement and food contributions, our kitchen is suitable for groups of up to 60 for regular meals. Think potluck.

there are usually a couple homebrew taps flowing, a bottle of tequila and/or moonshine stashed in view, and some really good northern california wine in hiding. :drunk

Again the emphasis is on meeting a celebrating with good friends and family, bring whatever fresh ingredients you have and we’ll always be able to cook something up at Camp Run a Muck.

See you there. :flower

So help me understand this…can I just roll up to someones camp with some rice crispy treats and join their picnic? Is it like a pot luck…if you want to join in on the green chile or rumballs or whatever you bring something? just don’t want to feel like an idiot. :cheers

The best way would be to ask someone if it’s a pot luck thing or a private affair before digging in.

yeah if you couldnt tell this is a very communal group

:festivarian

YO Larry ???

Ya siiiRRRRRR!!! :pirate :pirate

Hi Daniela! Food Saver brand makes a great home-use vacuum sealer. I mail ordered mine from Cabella’s. They have a bunch to choose from. Basic to fancy. They’re excellent for protecting food from liquids in a cooler, and they have a bunch of other uses too…

Kaptain Karlos :wave

Look folks!! It’s a hit-n-run-posting from Kaptain again!

Did anyone get his license plates?

Scooter… please don’t pull the rice crispy trick…

At the festival a bunch of big groups set-up elaborate camps in Town Park. They usually prepare communal meals, and if you are fortunate enough to be hanging around one of these camps chatting with someone come meal-time, you’ll most likely be invited to grab a plate. The big camps are very friendly and typically have a “house band” hanging-out with them. These camps are where most of the late-night picking goes on, and they plan for and expect crowds.

There are also a number of big social parties in Town Park before and during the festival where everyone is welcome and that include food, drink, bizzar entertainment, and sometimes pickin’ circles. You need not bring a thing other than a happy face. The folks who put-on these parties do it for free as a gift to the goddess of bluegrass. If you want to contribute some money or help-out just locate the camp or who is hosting the event and drop-in and volunteer yourself. Telluride Tom has a Town Park event schedule somewhere within this forum that can be used to figure-out your daily festivating.

For the most part, plan on feeding yourself, but also plan on being fed by others… the “food” will come in many forms… the friendly nods on the way to the port-a-potties, free drinks, toe-jobs, a suprise bite to eat, and hugs just to name a few… (and don’t forget about the music).

It’s not necessary to bring something… but if you do… make sure I get a little :angel

Kaptain Karlos :cheers

Monkeygirl… I’m all over this forum trying to figure where I left off and posting where and when I can…
Pa-leeze give me a break… will ya?
This forum is a tough crowd!
Time for me to head home… Later…

The Kaptain :cheers

Oh Dear…

Monkeygirl the Famed Kaptain Hunter made too much noise and frightened the Kaptain away!

I think what I’ll do is put a couple of trinkets (a button… maybe a cup) next to some ice cold beer. That should coax him back out of the shadows.

<------- not tough

It is good to see a couple of posts from you though Karl :flower

xoxo Rhonny

P.S. And for those of you wondering why I don’t get a life… I’m in a middle of this implementation that has me sitting for the last 28 hours STRAIGHT at my computer. I AM SO TIIIIRRREEED!

I don’t think so Ron! :eek

The only ones that can hide are the administrators and global moderator. :festival

Thanks, Karlos, but would you mind telling me which model you got? They all look the same to me. From $40.00 to $299.00. How much sucking does a person really need? For food, that is? :flower

Thanks for the heads up Kaptain…I guess I am just over thinking it all. I guess I will just relax and whatever happens, happens. I just can’t wait!

PS. what is the rice crispy trick?
