If you count (and we do) the year I was six months pregnant with him. We count it because he was so responsive to the music. He feel completely in love with Jerry Douglas (how can you not?)and just grooved around everytime we heard him. We bought “Restless on the Farm” and he did the same thing each time we played it on the long trip home. It was fun. That year the String Summit was right on Telluride’s heels and Jerry was there so we had a chance to get the cd signed for him. He wrote “To Peanut!”
I’m sorry to say (especially to you) the only thing he didn’t groove on was the Flecktones set. I thought his feet were gonna just pop right through. I think it was just too much Victor for him even though we were way in the back with a pillow over the tummy.
We’re so happy he still loves it all so much.
I’ve been to 17 of these things. I started in 1980 when you could camp just about anywhere, but no better place than TP. :cheers

I’ll back you on the “it was Vic’s Bass” part. Bass sounds through water (or slow speed cameras on a suspended wood floor at House of Blues) just don’t mix very well.

It is an iffy question for some of us. I looked at the archives and tried to remember if the lineup sounded right. Then I had to use my fingers and toes, but it gets confusing when you work that higher math. The people where I worked could not understand the fascination I had with going to see all these people they had never heard. I hope to be around to have someone carry our chairs and let us sit and watch all the youngsters with their kids and grandkids. At one of the earliest shows, on the smaller stage, I watch an old couple sitting and smiling as the long haired dancers twirled around them. at the time, I wondered what they thought, I’m getting a better idea as the years slip by.
25-30 years, makes me a newbie. I know one person who has been to them all. bouzouki
This is going to be my first, and I have a feeling it won’t be my last… I feel like I should have been going my whole life, but let’s not dwell on missed opportunities…
However, To those out there who’ve been to practically every single TBF (that’s you TellurideTom and Cindy Lou), I’m dying to ask you if you remember 1991 at all?
I was looking at the TBF past lineups, and my heart went to pieces when I saw the one for that year: it hosted almost every single bluegrass artist I grew up listening to and loved: Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas, Tim O’Brien, Marc O’Connor, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Alison Krauss & Union Station (featuring Alison Brown and Adam Steffey, my personal favorite formation), Laurie Lewis & Grant Street (featuring Tony Furtado and Tom Rozum), Tony Trischka & Big Dogs (featuring David Grier and Harley Allen) and even James Taylor with a bluegrass-all-star lineup!!!
I just can’t believe it! It sounds like a summary of my top 10 all-time favorite bluegrass albums!! It must have been insanely good!!!
If you have any particularly epic memories of that year, I’d love to hear them!

1991 was my first year at Telluride - about your age, so I definitely remember that fest. I had just moved to Colorado & didn’t know anyone who wanted to go to a ‘bluegrass’ fest, so I drove down from Denver by myself. That first glimpse of Telluride was just as breathtaking as everyone tells you it is. Camped out in a grove of aspens in the valley right before town. Everyone was so friendly & the music blew me away. I had heard of many of the artists, but I didn’t have much of their music, so I had to content myself with listening to my John Hartford Anthology album before the fest as a primer. Loved the Strength in Numbers set - bought a Bela & a Horseflies CD. Had a huge crush on Jerry & Johnny C. It was all wonderful - watched the hanggliders come over the mountain above the stage right before sunset. Met a boyfriend there who made me a Telluride '91 cassette sampler - still have that old cassette & play it every June. This will be my 14th year & I’m living back in Minnesota now - I feel like the musicians and the crowd are all my friends & it’s like coming home every year. Welcome to the family!!

Kym- We will celebrate that 30 together… This is number 16 for us as well…14 or 15 for Matthew ( he was about 7 months gestation at his first as well) and number 13 for Alex which is kinda crazy since he is still only 11…LOL… He didnt get to experience any gestation festivation… Hey, I think I just made up a new word for the dictionary…

I’m coming from ft worth…not too far from ok…had a friend that went to OU…used to road trip it there to visit all the time! Is The Mont still there…all i remember is their swirls!!
Oh, and this will be my first, but certainly not my last!! :cheers
Indeed, the Mont is still kickin’. I was just there last night actually, and their swirls are still great too.
