I did the same, but only in the last several years. Uncle Pen Days are a-coming up in Sept as well as Winding Creek Festival in IN (3rd year) in Aug. Here’s a link in case you will be passing by IN anytime. http://www.windingcreekbluegrass.com/
Anyhow, #1 guess : older veterans. I recall festivals (20 yrs. ago) of dancing to all the dance inspiring tunes (most of them) and sitting for a fine compliment of deep / mellow or other, front and center. I thought we even inspired others to dance; I know I’ve received such inspiration to stand and show some appreciation for the music and musicians, perhaps even dance for GOD. Certainly there was more dancing all over the front field then. There was some “Down in Front” followed by “Dance in back,” and with some coaxing many did. I have had so much good time at TBF, learned more, and enjoyed life as much as any other venue in my life. Clearly, the box has been broken, however, “it’s all good.” Yeah, I like folks dancing, If I want to see the musicians and someone is dancing in front of me, I’ll stand up or move. One of the reasons I love festival is there is almost always some open space where you could want to be. I really enjoyed the benches by the food vendors this year, nice work Tom and others. It’s crowded, but it’s still good. More corporate, but what isn’t, gotta work on that one . . . I couldn’t imagine shouting at someone to sit down who was in my view. You have got to be kidding. Entitlement is a serious problem, however anarchy has it’s limits. i.e. the GA line was O.C. that said, our sub-radar line boss was in Banff National Park this year, I think first fest missed in 27 years.
Give Thanks. Praise be to the Almighty.

All this talk about dancing made me think back to a long time ago.
I grew up in a small town. The town’s preacher was pretty important player in determining the town’s way of life. And since he forbid dancing of any kind, especially to rock and roll, our town pretty much stayed away from dancing. We didn’t think much about it…
Well, I don’t believe it can legally be sold in the US. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s listed as a toxic, grade A non-tradable good in most parts of the world. Except for Siberia.
