Announcing the initial 2015 lineup

I have two words for this lineup.

RY COODER :thumbsup :eek :flower :cheers

…and all that

OK - after seeing the line-up, reading the post after, then looking for that elusive “Mule” ( :lol thanks mandhoe) a few points…

A. - :rock :clap :cheers

B. - Each and every band on this list is a headliner. That’s what makes TBF so special! :flower

C. - That “Aussie” band was taken hostage, without ransome, years ago. If you try to stuff them in your dunner cover and take them out of the country, well… there will be problems. :lol :evil :lol

Very strong lineup. The Stu-Noam and Chris and Edgar sets will be very special. You can tell how much effort goes in to curating (yeah i know its a pretentious word) the fest. Still thinking the Decemberists may be a late addition. But that would be gravy on the cake.

Onward and wager all!

Great lineup! But it needs one thing to be perfect. Don’t make me find yet another new festival to attend just to get my Dusters fix this summer!

Although, going to String Summit last year to see The Dusters was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made . . .

String dusters would be great. I live right down the road from their festy they put on each fall in virginia.

I’d beg to differ in so far as your take on “rightly” … while I see what you’re getting at and it has some merrit, not everyone can afford to commit to the entire festival. Especially, those who live and work in town or the region and can only make it for one day. From the perspective of such individuals, they now have to blindly pick a day vs. selecting the day which hosts their favorite performers.

Thank you for the line up which is fantastic, so many legends of bluegrass, cannot believe we will see so many people we have listened to for years. At last! And three of the great discoveries through this forum are there, hurrah. Now this is just a personal thing but um, are there going to be many more women appearing on stage cause I have to admit my very favourites are AK, Emmy Lou, Iris, Dolly, Bonnie etc and while I am definitely not greedy just one of them would send me to heaven. Just saying…thank you for the fantastic line up and the excitement keeps building. You guys are awesome. :wave :wave

I don’t know if I’d go as far as to say Trout Steak Revival and/or the Fairfield Four are festival headliners, but I like your energy! Even if it just a tad goofy. :thumbsup

Where is this Cat Stevens information coming from?

People talk … have also heard Steve Miller in addition to Cat Stevens.

You don’t think we might get some of The Basement Tapes crew given Rhiannan is there?

I think the Basement Tapes are a much higher probability given that Cat Stevens is only playing select cities, 7 I believe. Plus Costello has a history here, and seemed to truly enjoy his visit and being surrounded by such an all star lineup of musicians.

Oh I hope you are right x

We get another seven or eight more acts added to the lineup. After enough years you almost hope for a band or two that you don’t care for as much as the others just so you can take a break. And when you add in the nightgrass, workshops, band contests and general campground picking you may feel like having to clone yourself. You will not go lacking for great music whatever site you end up at.

Spoiled for choice huh? I guess my time out will be during the John Butler Trio, don’t get me wrong, I know they are very, very good but I feel like they have played at every event I’ve attended in last two years. We cracked up when we saw they would be at Telluride, we have a kind of standing joke that they will be at every gig we go to…and they did it again :grinning::grinning::grinning:

I’m pretty thrilled with the initial line up

I’ve never seen YMSB and Leftover Salmon, can anyone recommend a couple of must have cds of their’s that I need, other than their new releases(which is a given that I will buy). Thanks

Telluride House Band looks awesome. Is that an every year appearance, or a one off?

Super excited about Greensky who I saw for the first time this year and became an instant fan. They are one of the main reasons for me coming. I was so hoping for them. Whew!!

I still can’t see Yusuf committing to this festival because of the insane amount of security he requires. The guy is seriously worried about something.

Another question if I may…does the daily TBF line up schedule get finalized before the Nightgrass tickets go on sale?

The House Band has been an every year thing for as long as I’ve been coming. It evolved out of Strength in Numbers. Not sure when it became The House Band. It truly is one of the best shows of the fest.

The Daily lineup will be finalized before nightgrass tickets go on sale.

As for albums for Salmon and Yonder, you’re best bet to really get a feel for those bands is live recordings. They both have some live albums you could purchse (Salmon’s “Ask The Fish” and Yonder’s “Mountain Tracks” series), but I’d recommend logging onto live downloads and buying some soundboards or just getting some audience recordings from archive.org

Shows I’d recommend:

Salmon:
2014/6/19 Sheridan Opera House, Telluride CO
2014/3/17 Top Hat, Missoula MT
2009 New Year’s Run
1999/12/31
1998/3/28

I consider the two 2014 shows to be the best Salmon shows I’ve attended.

Yonder:

2009/6/17 - Telluride Conference Center, Mountain Village CO (They played the same set from 1999/10/2, so you can listen to how the band evolved in ten years if you listen to both shows)
2009/4/17 McDonald Theater, OR?
2013/3/22 Wilma Theatre, Missoula MT
2014/4/12 Asheville NC (They play the Sheriff’s saga in it’s entirety for the second set)
2014/7/18, 19, & 20 North Plains, OR

The 2014 Yonder shows are all after Jeff Austin left the band and are a better representation of what you can expect at Telluride.

Wow! Thank you so much, I have just bought the Leftover Salmon CD that was released last month, I will put it on high rotation along with Greensky over ( our) summer. The great thing about a six month lead in to this gig is the opportunity to learn about otherwise unknown bands. Loving it

thanks HS
love archive.org
i’ll seek out those 2014 shows

There is a wealth of Salmon on Archive. Anything from the spring run in 1998 is worth listening to. There’s a show from Vanderbilt that Sam Bush plays on for the entire show, it was one of the first shows by Salmon that I downloaded, and it’s still one of my favorites. The 1999 New Years Eve show is worth a listen as well. One of the discs is a Sam Bush & John Cowan show with Leftover playing as their backup band.

As far as albums, the newest two albums are must haves; Ask the Fish, Euphoria, and Nashville Sessions are must haves as well.
