Yep we will roll out Sunday night but just into Moab for the night. Much younger…and much better…but I didn’t 10,000 Bluegrass songs on my iPod either! :cheers

topdog welcome. :cheers I live in Flagstaff. You are probably looking at about a 7 hour drive to Flag then 7 or 8 to Telluride depending on pit stops. The drive to Flag is interesting then the drive from Flag to Telluride is totally amazing if you have never done that. You will drive across the Navajo Reservation past the Painted Desert and then cross the San Juan over into Colorado. From there it is even more amazing as you round a bend out there on the highway you move from high desert plains and mesas and canyons into the Southwestern Colorado desert and all of a sudden you round another bend and drive through Cortez and in 20 minutes start driving up into the San Juan Mountains in my opinion the nicest mountains on the continent (and I grew up in the Appalachians and love 'em to death). Two hrs past Flag you will hit Tuba City I recommend the local restaurant on the near right hand corner at the traffic light. Then there is not much till Cortez where they do a pretty good burger and stout at the brewery on the right in the middle of town. That should get you to Telluride. Don’t count on a lot of gas stations past Flag so get some in Kayenta and again in Cortez or Dolores.

Thanks, I’ve been as far as Flagstaff & the Grand Cyn before, a couple of times. The rest will be new! I’ve been to other parts of the Rockies and I know I won’t be disappointed!

Ok- As long as we are talking driving… From Tucson To Tride… The way we normally go is Tucson- Showlow- Holbrook- 40 TO Gallup and then up 666… Is this the best way?

Hey so this year will be Telluride #4 for me, but it’s the first year I got into town park. I would kinda like to join a historic camp if thats an option. What exactly does that entail?

Mostly it involves wandering around and being friendly. But performing feats of strength or other entertaining tricks helps too.

Hooch is right. Being willing to be a worker bee will gain you status with an established camp.

Astone, when are you pulling into Town Park?

Monday before noon.

Definitely feats of strength will go a long way.

Can you chop down a tree? Are you able to leap tall buildings with a single bound? How many tarps can you carry at once? How fast can you run? Do you have any physical limitations that would prevent you from carrying things?

Are you strong enough to lift a shot glass full of Crunchy Frog? You’ll be just fine.

Make sure you stop by and say hi!

:wave Get yourself to Flagtaff… Then follow these directions:

US-160 E/Navajo Trail
Continue to follow US-160 E
154 mi
7. Turn left to stay on US-160 E
Passing through New Mexico
Entering Colorado
24.5 mi
8. Turn left onto US-160 E/US-491 N
19.6 mi
9. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for I-160
203 ft
10. Continue onto W Main St
2.4 mi
11. Turn left onto CO-145 N/State St (signs for Dolores/Rico/Telluride)
Continue to follow CO-145 N
70.9 mi
12. Turn right onto CO-145 S

Be sure to stop off for some fry bread at the 4 corners national monument. You’re welcome to join Run a Muck when you find a town park pass.

:peace

Me and my festivarian companion can definitely carry things. we could also make pretty good tarp runners…bagpipes make me run really fast.

I’d say yes. I’m in Mesa, and usually go Payson, Heber, Holbrook, Gallup, etc.

Highway 666 is now 491. Still the devil’s highway though. :evil And get your gas in Cortez, it’s about 10 cents cheaper than in Dolores. And why doesn’t my keyboard have a cents symbol?
If any of ya’ll get lost you can call me and I’ll point you in the right direction. It’s that-a way! yee-ha :lol

it does!!! ¢

alt-0162 on your numpad

Wow! That’s a lot of typing for a penny
I only need to hold option 4 to get that symbol on my mac :thumbsup

Freakin’ hippies.

Got an extra Mac?

laptop doesn’t have a number pad. :rolleyes :bash

Hey, guys!

I’m a Festi- and Town-Park-virgin. I can’t come in until Monday morning (I’m going to the Palisade Fest that weekend with cousins, and I sure as heck don’t want to miss the Carolina Chocolate Drops Sunday night). I’m supposed to camp with a bunch of reprobates/friends from Steamboat, so I imagine they’ll save a spot for my stuff, but I’d love to meet all you lovely folks! I figure I’ll just show up to the pre-fest events with booze and bacon (ever had a bacon bloody mary?). Be gentle, though. It’s my first time.

Linds

Linds, not to worry, we love festi-virgins! we’ll " take good care of you" (wink wink).

astone, stop by Wander in when you get in, we’re right across from the bath house. we might be able to find you a place to land?

Topdog about 12 years ago I posted a similar post being a “solo”. I was taken in by Joe Piche and never felt alone the whole time I was there. you should also stop by said camp and we can see what we can do to accommodate you. also April (hipchick) is driving up alone from Flagstaff I believe? you might want to contact her and maybe hook up for half the trip? you should be able to find her on this forum.
