I have traveled many miles, and gone to festivals that I might not have attended, just to see The Band of Heathens play. The two main guys (there used to be three lead singers) are extremely talented songwriters AND players.
Saw these guys at Strawberry last year and they were awesome. Really cool that immediately after the show they were selling jump drives with their entire set including interviews with the band and photos taken by their crew! Pretty cool.
I have tickets to see them next month and admire the shirt out of all the players but I think it’s not fest applicable. Too quiet, too intricate for Town Park. Just my opinion and I welcome discussion but even world class music sometimes just doesn’t fit.
I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with your statements, but I’ll point out that a fest that a has Edgar Meyer doing solo bass sets, and Bela doing his Classical compositions could never exclude Goat Rodeo
I agree, though I’m guessing those sets don’t sit firmly with Ed, either; there’s also the likelihood that a high profile set of musicians like Goat Rodeo would probably be given a set later in the day, during which the “intricacy” (I like that word, so I’m quoting it) of a Goat Rodeo set might not be as well-appreciated by the whole of the Festivarian body. Just presuming a lot of stuff here, though. They’d surely kill it, no doubt.
